Speaking about the pressure that comes with fame, the actress attributed her outlook to the way she was raised, saying her parents constantly reminded her and her siblings to remain grounded regardless of their achievements.
Ooja said she comes from a closely knit family where being approachable and treating people normally were strongly emphasised from an early age.
According to her, when she began gaining widespread recognition, she decided that she wanted to be a celebrity who could still connect with people without allowing fame to change her personality.
“My parents are very hands-on, and from the jump they let us know, ‘Everybody, no matter what you do, you must remain normal, and you must be approachable,’” she said.
“When I started getting popular, I told myself, ‘I want to be the kind of celebrity that is approachable. I want to be relatable. I want to be human.’”
The actress said she has continued to hold on to that mindset, adding that she wants people to leave interactions with her feeling that they had simply spoken with another human being rather than someone who considers herself above others because of her celebrity status.
“I tell myself everywhere that I go, I want to be able to leave an impression where they say she’s a human being,” she added.
Ooja also said she does not want fame to make her lose her sense of self, stressing that she prefers having genuine conversations and maintaining a normal connection with people.
“I don’t want to lose myself. I want to walk into this room and have a beautiful conversation like we’re having and feel like we just had a conversation. And that’s one of the things I have categorically told myself, zero pressure for me,” she said.
